On Trend: Pastels & Pearls

Some things never go out of fashion, and precious pearls are one of those things. They are a classic jewellery piece and make beautiful embellishments. They make me think of the movie stars and old Hollywood. I have started to notice more and more pearls popping up everywhere this season as accessories and they go perfectly with pastel colours which are everywhere this season. Read on to find out how I think you should work this trend...

Statement necklaces have been the buzzword of nearly every season, they add an instant wow factor to your outfit! Pearl jewellery doesn’t have to just be the traditional plain necklace. Choose a necklace that has double layers or pendants to make a statement. Many come with different coloured pearls and mixed beads which add extra excitement to what could be a plain necklace.

Now we move onto pastels. Pastels are already light and delicate, therefore adding pearls works so well. I think all of the jewelry above would match these styles perfectly. Not long ago Elle magazine shared their trends for spring/summer 2015, one of these trends being “The Light Romantic”. The light romantic trend is loose fitted pieces, flowing fabrics, pastel colours and ultra feminine.

I love the free-flowing fabric and muted colours in the image above, how wonderful would something like that be with a gorgeous statement pearl necklace?

A kimono top embodies the light-romantic trend and is perfect for sunny days on the beach! I’d choose a lighter pastel colour for my kimono with a similar outfit to the image above, with some classic pearl stud earrings for just a hint of sophistication.

This is another example from the spring/summer 2015 gallery on Elle, and I'd wear this straight off the catwalk! The lovely pastel green colour and floral hints make me feel like hitting the beach. Another trend I’ve noticed popping up everywhere is seeing the Hamsa symbol on jewelry. Has anyone else noticed that? I like the idea behind it, as the Hamsa is a protective symbol in all faiths, bringing it's owner happiness, luck, health, and good fortune. A simple pearl bracelet or necklace with a Hamsa charm would look beautiful with an outfit like this.

I do sometimes think people are afraid to include colours such as green in their outfit, but this lovely pastel mint green is just right. This outfit is from the Anna Quan Spring Summer 2014/15 collection. The light colour looks so classy and chic, but could easily be dressed down as well. I think in combination with a simple classic pearl necklace, something like this would instantly turn into a high-fashion outfit.

So what do you think of these trends? I’m just about ready to drape myself in pearls and gorgeous fabrics.
